Having the opportunity to camp out for a couple of days is always fun.
It can enhance your reality, bring you back to nature, and indulge you in what you love most: spending time outdoors!
If you are thinking about taking up camping but you are not sure how much it will cost or if it will be worth while, then this blog post is just for you! Keep reading, to find out everything you need to know about this.
Let’s assume that you have found the most important things that you need for your camping trip, but you don’t know how much it costs to book a camping site or what services, required or optional, you have to pay for.
Required services (in most cases)
Camping Pitch along with the camping gear you will bring such as small tent or big tent or a campervan.
First of all, you have to book your camping pitch based on the camping gear you plan to bring along. The cost of the pitch varies based on each campsite’s perspective and of course the facilities they offer, the location and more. Usually, a camping pitch in Greece will cost between 5€ to 10€ per day no matter the number of the guests but depending on the gear, such as small tent, big tent, caravan, camper, RV etc. This cost is required to book a camping pitch in most of the campsites in Greece.
Number of guests: adults and children
Information about the guests is another cost that should be taking into account. How many adults are you going to be? How many children? The pricing for an adult may be between 5€ to 8€ per person per day, while the pricing for a child sometimes depends on the age. Some campsites have three different price ranges for children, such as free up to 2 years old, maybe 2€ per child per day from 2 years old to 8 and then between the ages of 8 to 17, something like half price the adult. This is a tricky part cause it’s never that accurate but better book it in advance with the correct and real ages instead of arguing later about how old the kid looks like and how old it is 😀
Electricity as a service
In most campgrounds in Greece, electricity is optional and it is charged as an extra service. This might not be the case for all of them since many campsites have started providing electricity to all their pitches, but usually they would ask you if you need electricity or not, so better book it in advance. The cost of the electricity is also charged per day and varies between 2€ to 5€ per day per pitch.
Optional services
Parking for your vehicle
Choosing if and where you want to park is a key point of interest for the campsite. You might have the option to park within the campsite with an extra fee or you might be able to unpack your things at your pitch and then go and park outside of the campsite or somewhere close enough, for free. This is not always an option for all campsites and it surely depends on the region and the campsite itself. The cost to park however, is charged per day, and for a motorcycle it would be around 2€ – 3€ and for a car something like 3€ – 5€ per day. At this case, some campsites may restrict you to one car for each pitch, but other won’t. So better ask upon your arrival, cause in those cases the decision is closely attached to the capacity they have at that moment you arrive.
Other extra services
Most campsites don’t have the kinds of services you’d find in a hotel. Some of them, however, might be able to offer you breakfast at their restaurant or outdoor activities on demand, such as sea sports.
Gear to rent
If you haven’t bought your own tent yet, then at some campsites you may see that there is the possibility of tent rental. This means that you can rent your tent from the campsite. This doesn’t entail that tent is ready and set-up. You can just rent it instead of buying your own. This is not an option for all campsites and it’s on demand based on the availability, because usually campgrounds don’t book those in advance.
In conclusion, you will have to do a little more research before your camping trip, in order to find out all the details about pricing and how it is done, but we can assure you that it is worth your time and effort, since camping can offer you amazing memories and unique experiences you will remember for a life!
