Lake Kournas is the only freshwater lake in Crete. It is located in a very beautiful location, in a hollow between hills, about 4km away from Georgioupolis in the prefecture of Chania (western Crete). Lake Kournas is an ideal nature excursion destination. It is worth hiking around the lake. The hike takes less than an hour if you want to make a full circle.

At Lake Kournas there are small beaches just below the main road and in front of the taverns. There you will find sunbeds and umbrellas during the summer months, and you can also rent “sea” bikes if you want to enjoy a ride through the lake – especially in the evening hours it is a wonderful and very romantic option.
Enjoy your meal at the many taverns and cafes at Lake Kournas, which offer you the opportunity to dine by the waters while enjoying the beautiful view.
